Sustainability Policy
In our pursuit of sustainability, we proudly declare that some of our products are plastic free! Our box of 20 individually wrapped envelopes are packaged in a recyclable box, the envelope is plastic free and tag is plastic free. The tea bag itself is also plastic free – this is achieved by folding the bag as opposed to the more common way of heat sealing. The outer box is shrink-wrapped in a plastic for freshness but we are actively collaborating with our supplier to eliminate all plastic shrink wrapping across our range in the near future.
Our commitment extends to reusable tubes for our drums of 50 tea bags and our Every Day Brew is also packaged in a recyclable box, however these two products (at the moment) contain tea bags that are heat sealed with a polypropylene sealant to stop the tea bags falling apart in the hot water. We’re on a journey toward achieving a plastic-free tea bag for our Every Day Brew and 50 drums as well as working on an alternative to the shrink wrap. This is another step we’re taking to ensure that every aspect of our tea-making process is as sustainable as possible.
In addition to this all the outer cartons we use to pack our teas in are made from sustainable FSC case board material and we have recently moved over to using kraft paper tape to seal our shipping cartons.
In our pursuit of excellence, we have partnered with a company who are renowned experts in blending tea in the UK with over 150 years of experience. Combining their rich heritage and expertise with our vision based on a lifetime of living in the Lake District, we have created a blend for the Lake District Tea Co.
Our tea is sourced from the established tea growing countries of India, Africa, Sri Lanka and China and we also work with emerging tea-growing countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
We work with our network of trusted importers who we have long-standing relationship with. We taste the teas on arrival to ensure consistency and the tasting then continues as we hone each blend to ensure we maintain a balanced flavour profile.
Another testament to our commitment to quality is our supplier’s membership of the prestigious Tea Council since 1979, when the Tea Grading System was founded.
We are also extremely proud to offer a Lake District Tea Co takeaway cup. One of the most sustainable takeaway cups on the UK market. These cups are made in Britain, produced on a certified plastic free and home compostable board and are 100% recyclable. Please get in touch for more information.
Lake District Tea Co is not just about crafting exceptional tea; it’s about crafting a sustainable legacy — one where every sip contributes to the preservation of our planet’s natural beauty. We invite you to join us on this journey towards a greener, more sustainable future.
